Driving License
(Category 02 Driver)

First Issue
Documents and requirements:

  • Identity and Electoral Registration Document.

  • Theory Exam successfully passed.

  • Provisional license (current) having been issued at least 45 day previous.

  • Certificate of good driving and/or no convictions for driving offences.

  • Payment of taxes and fees.

  • Proof of attendance at an Educación Vial talk.

Procedure:

  • Go to any of the Federal Bank payment points, located across the country, in order to pay all relevant taxes and fees.

  • Present your Identity and Electoral Registration Document at the information office of the General Board for Road Traffic. Your personal details and your fingerprints will be registered, and you will be told the next steps to take.

  • Registration: Present the required documentation to pay for the driving license.

  • Eye Examination: In order to take this exam, you need to present your Identity and Electoral Registration Document, together with proof of payment of taxes and for the right to a driving license.

  • Educación vial: Driving course.

  • Document revision.

  • Practical exam.

  • Submission of details, photos and signature.

  • Issue of driving license.

  • To retake the practical exam, and to update your provisional license, you must request the right to a re-examination after 21 days from the original exam, at the payment points of the Federal Bank to pay RD$200.00

Note: If the driving license does not state your blood type, you must take a blood group test at the Red Cross, or any other legally recognized institution.

Renewal
(License Category 02)
Documents and requirements:

  • Payment of taxes and fees at any payment point of the Federal Bank, located across the country.

  • Identity and Electoral Registration Document.

  • Expired driving license (Category 02).

Procedure:

  • Registration: Presentation of documentation and payment of taxes.

  • Eye examination.

  • Submission of details, photos and signature.

  • Issue of driving license.

Renewal methods
With the objective of speeding up the renewal process for Driving Licenses (category B), the State Ministry for Public Work and Communications (Secretaría de Estado de Obras Públicas y Comunicaciones, SEOPC) has set up renewal offices at various points throughout the capital city, which are open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 in the afternoon:

Exchange of a foreign driving license for a Dominican license
Documents and requirements:

  • Foreign driving license, current at the date of exchange.

  • Certificate issued by the corresponding diplomatic or consular office, certifying the validity of the driving license. Notarized at the Ministry.

  • (2) photocopies of the foreign driving license.

  • Payment of taxes and fees.

Procedure:

  • Registration: Presentation of required documentation, and payment of taxes.

  • Eye examination.

  • Blood type examination.

  • Review of documentation.

  • Submission of details, photos and signature.

  • Issue of license.
