Three ships embarked on the journey of the Discovery:

• La Niña.  Caravel of 52.72 tons.  It had a crew of 20 men, under the command of Vicente Yánez Pinzón.

• La Pinta.  Caravel prepared to hold 90 tons.  It had a crew of 25 men under the command of Martín Alonso Pinzón.  It was the fastest of the three ships.

•  La Santa María.  Three mast ship.  It was captained by Christopher Columbus and had a crew of 39 men.
