Important works in progress

Santo Domingo’s metro system:  Currently the construction of a subway system is in progress. Its first stage starts on the bridge over the Isabela River, to the north of the Maximum Gomez Avenue, and it will extend to the Centro de los Heroes. The project anticipates the construction of 11 stations and it will be located 13 meters under the Maximum Gomez Avenue extending from the Isabela River to Correa y Cidrón Street, where it will turn west and then south by the Jiménez Moya Avenue. It will operate with electricity, thus a power station of 30 megawatts will be installed with emergency units at each station. It is expected that the project will be completed in three years. The construction was preceded by numerous technical studies.

Duarte Shopping Promenade:  Impelled by the City council, the Central Government and the private initiative, this is a project of recovery and urban revitalization of this commercial artery. It responds to a design of the architects Luis Guzmán, Omar Rancier and Pablo Morel, who conceived it as a "great outdoor Caribbean mall". The proposal occupies one square kilometer, and it begins on 27 de Febrero Avenue and extends to Mella Avenue. The project will modify the facade of the Plaza de los Buhoneros, adding trees and incorporating furnishings and urban art, among other changes.  A different team will be in charge of the proposal to renovate the Barrio Chino or the Chinese District. This project will consists of the incorporation of traditional Chinese gates and arches, façade modifications of approximately 200 houses and the restoration of the Max Theater.

Cap Cana- This is an ambitious tourist resort and real estate project that is being constructed in Punta Cana, Bavaro and that will occupy 25 million square meters. It contemplates the construction of 5,000 residential units, a 500 guest-room hotel, three golf courses and a marina for mega yachts.  According to its promoters, this project will be the most important of its kind, both in the Caribbean and Latin America. It is being constructed in stages and it will be completed in 10 years.
