Casa de Teatro Opens “Naturaleza desvestida” Exhibit
    Santo Domingo, August 3rd 2017

The first individual exposition of the visual artist María Fernanda Rosario, titled “Naturaleza desvestida” (Nature Undressed) was unveiled in the Casa de Teatro’s Sala Paul Giudicelli.

At the opening ceremony, the young artist María Fernanda Rosario was accompanied by Pedro Vergés, Minister of Culture, and Francisco Domínguez Brito, Minister of the Environment, as well as Cayo Claudio Espinal, Vice Minister of Creativity and Public Engagement, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, district attorney of the Distrito Nacional, and Huchi Lora, the prestigious journalist.

Accompanied by her parents, entrepreneurs Fernando Rosario and Nancio de Rosario, the exhibitor was introduced to those present in a moving speech by Domínguez Brito, who underlined the sensitivity, creativity, and talent demonstrated in the young artist who in her first individual exposition in the Casa de Teatro has taken to the stage of Dominican national arts.

Following Brito’s words, Abil Peralta Agüero, art critic, curator, and consultant, presented the exhibition and highlighted María Fernanda Rosario’s contributions through her geometric abstraction to a new type of contemporary art which rejects the life force of the classical and modern foundations of imagination.

The collection of works which make up “Naturaleza desvestida” includes 30 paintings, drawings, and engravings; the majority in a combination of styles and a variety of formats over wood and canvas. Some of the notable pieces: “Secuencia Fernando Jr.,” “Mézclate conmigo,” “Entre mar Caribe y Nueva York,” “Rostro de luz,” and “Entrelazados,” among others.

The exhibition will be open to the public in the Casa de Teatro until the August 15th. Until then, all can enjoy a series of works in which the artists touches upon sensitive topics such as global warming, migrations, and existential problems affecting the world today.

The opening ceremony also was attended by distinguished Santiago VIPs as well as recognized contemporary plastic artists, including the painter Freddy Javier, President of the Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Plásticos (CODAP).

    Biography

María Fernanda Rosario was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. From a young age she demonstrated great interest in art, and in 2010 began her education in the plastic arts with the recognized Santiago-native painter Juan Gutiérrez.

She carried out special studies in visual arts in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2012, and in the Pratt Institute of New York in 2013.

As part of her complementary artistic studies, during 2013 and 2014 she took private lessons in Miami with the famed Dominican painter Ada Balcácer. Today, Rosario publicly acknowledges that Balcácer became her guiding beacon for the development of her most notable feats in the fields of drawing and painting.

The young exhibitor varied her artistic formation with architectural studies in New York, where Rosario complemented her training with direct contact with the works of the world’s leading masters of modern and contemporary art in this essential enclave of world art.
