Ministry of Culture Relaunches Ramón Oviedo Art Gallery
Santo Domingo, Wednesday July 26th 2017

With the inauguration of the exhibit “Convergencia Cromática (Chromatic Convergence), displaying works by artists Elsa Núñez, José Perdomo, Lizett Mejía and Barón Arias, the Ministry of Culture has relaunched the Ramón Oviedo Art Gallery as an exhibition space.

The event, celebrated at the Ministry of Culture, was attended by Minister Pedro Vegés and relied on remarks from Cayo Claudio Espinal, Vice Minister of Creativity and Public Engagement.

Before a crowd of key figures of the plastic arts, the exhibition consisting of a total of 20 works made using mixed techniques was formally opened to the public. The exhibit will continue until August 18th.

During his remarks, Vice Minister Espinal announced that the inauguration has reactivated the tradition of exhibitions in the room which pays permanent tribute to Ramón Oviedo.

On behalf of the artists, Elsa Núñez expressed her satisfaction in being part of the exhibit, and thanked Minister Vergés for his support, calling him a “lover of the fine arts,” as demonstrated by the re-opening of this esteemed space to plastic artists.

The exhibit, which reflects the creativity, talent, and ability of these four important figures to Dominican plastic arts, is curated by Hilario Olivo of the Vice Ministry of Creativity and Public Engagement

Noted art critic Laura Gil Fiallo expressed during her assessment of the exhibit that “the incombustibility of the paintings is the first thing which jumps out in the exposition” and underlined that the four artists are characterized “by wading into abstract waters – on the borders of imagination.”

Some notable attendees of the event were Alejandro Cabral, Gina Imbert, the poet Rafael Hilario and Genaro Phillips.
