    Cultura celebrará el Día Nacional del Folklore

    Ministry of Culture Announces Celebration of the National Carnival Parade 2017
    Santo Domingo, February 17, 2017

    The Ministry of Culture (MINC, for its acronym in Spanish) and the National Carnival Commission gave details on the arrangements for the National Carnival Parade, to be held on March 5, 2017, starting from 2:00 pm, along George Washington Avenue in the National District.

    The details were released at a press conference offered on Wednesday at the Art Hall Ramón Oviedo of the Ministry of Culture, and was headed by officials of the state body and members of the National Commission of Carnival, which highlighted the efforts made to bring the duration of the parade to three hours, and to guarantee the quality of the groups with a thorough preliminary selection.

    The press conference was headed by Edilí Pichardo, Vice Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship; Ramón Lachapelle, National Director of Carnival; Patricia Mora, Communications Director General; among other MINC officials.

    Deputy Minister Pichardo also stressed that the Carnival National Parade and all activities related to it, will have a security unit that will guarantee the safety of the Dominican families.

    The official said that the desire of the Minister of Culture, Pedro Vergés is to show an agile and brief parade, in which quality prevails over quantity.
    It was reported that the King of Carnival will be the popular merenguero Kinito Méndez and the queen, cultural manager Eugenia Torres, who will be crowned Saturday, February 18, at 8:00 pm in the Plaza España, in the Colonial City.

    This edition of the carnival, dedicated to the municipalities of the Northwest Region, Cotuí, Salcedo, San Francisco de Macorís, and Rio San Juan, will run from West to East, starting from the intersection of Máximo Gómez and George Washington avenues and ending in The Obelisco Macho, in front of the Ministry of Culture.

    During the press conference it was also informed that the closing of the Parade will take place in Plaza Juan Barón, with a performance, sponsored by Kola Real, featuring Sergio Vargas, Don Miguelo, Mozart La Para and Chiquito Team Band.
