    Sabores Dominicanos Foundation Brings International Expert to Conduct Workshops on Food Criticism and the Study of Food

    With the purpose of encouraging the writing of gastronomic topics, both in journalism and literature, Sabores Dominicanos Foundation will offer two workshops in June on Food Criticism and Food Literature, taught by the international expert in gastronomic journalism Yanet Acosta.

    The director of the festival, actor Basilio Nova, in a brief speech, appreciated the promptness with which the cash prizes were handed, and congratulated the more than 20 participating organizations at the Festival that took place from March 7 to March 20, during the celebration of the month of theatre in Dominican Republic.

    The workshops will be preceded by the formal launch of the National Awards for Journalism and Gastronomic Literature on Monday, June 20th at 7 pm at the restaurant Higüero.

    Then on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:00 pm, the lecture "Gastronomy and Journalism as Tools to Build a Country Brand" will be issued, which will be dictated by Yanet Acosta, who is also a writer and Spanish professor, alongside the president of the Dominican Association of Tourist Press, Inc. (Adompretur), José Luis Chavez. The conference is open to the general public.

    Acosta, who will teach both workshops, is the Director of The Foodie Studies and Professor and Coordinator of the Master in Communication and Gastronomic Journalism in Spain. She is also a graduate in journalism with a PhD in History of the Press from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

    The workshops also aim to encourage the appreciation and diffusion of Dominican cultural and culinary values through the creation of literature based on the culinary theme, and promotes a deepening and professionalization of the reports of gastronomic writings that are published in newspapers and magazines from the Dominican Republic.

    Among other things, the workshops will serve as an information base for those who wish to participate in the culinary competition being convened by the Foundation.

    The first workshop will address the food critic and will be held on Wednesday June 22nd, from 9 am to 5:30 pm, and will include lunch. The second workshop will address gastronomic literature and will be held on Thursday June 23rd, from 9 am to 12:30 pm.

    Some of the topics to be discussed are the limitations, freedom and perspective in criticism; rigor and style; models of food reviews in the current food journalism; examples of how literature is used in gastronomy as inspiration, etcetera.
