Culture Announces the “Long Night of the Museums in Spring”
    New York, March 18, 2016

The Ministry of Culture announced that on Saturday, April 2, the Long Night of the Museums in the Spring 2016 will take place. This is the first of four editions of this event that have been planned for this year.

During the event, all the historic centers and monuments will provide free access to the people, who will also have the opportunity to participate in an extensive program of crafts exhibitions, concerts, conferences and educational workshops.

Details of the organization of this activity were provided by Ana María Conde, Director General of the Museums, who said that, as it has been done in previous editions, admission will be free of charge for those who come to participate in the event.

She reported that the museums will remain open during extended hours, from 9:00 am to 12:00 midnight. All the museums in the Colonial City, Plaza de la Cultura, and Faro a Colón will participate, in addition to, and for the first time, Centro León and the Monumento de los Héroes de la Restauración in Santiago will also participate.

The formal opening is scheduled for 6:30 pm at the Museo de las Casas Reales, located in the Colonial City. In addition, Conde said that the shows that have been scheduled will ensure that the thousands of families who participate again in this event will fully enjoy it.

Starting in 2012, since Minister José Antonio Rodríguez took over the administration of the Ministry of Culture, and to date, the long night of the museums has been extended from one to four annual editions. These take place throughout the year. During the aforementioned period, a dozen editions have been organized, each coinciding with the beginning of each season.

Conde said: "The Long Night of the Museums allows us to showcase, in a variety of scenarios, the culture that identifies us through dance, folklore, theater, living statues, the recreation of period characters, and also through a large number of other cultural activities."

She added that during the administration of Culture Minister José Antonio Rodríguez, the "Long Night of the Museums" has achieved remarkable growth and has been very well received by society at large.

She concluded that this activity is organized with the objective of enhancing the dissemination of the nation’s cultural heritage.
