Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) / FUNGLODE presented this Wednesday February 24th at 809 Sangria Bar & Grill in New York City its latest publication, LO DOMINICANO / ALL THINGS DOMINICAN. The event began with the participation of Dominican singer, José Fernando Capellan, who delighted the audience with two emblematic songs for Dominicans, "Dominicano Soy" and "Quisqueya." This musical moment was followed by welcoming remarks from Yamile Eusebio, director of GFDD New York, who thanked the audience their presence despite the rain and went on to describe the content, concept and purpose of the publication. Yamile described LO DOMINICANO / ALL THINGS DOMINICAN as "a gift to serve the community" that has an innovative design, in a bilingual format and highlighted the great leadership as the Project Director and Editor in Chief that Natasha Despotovic had, as well as the vision to put together a multidisciplinary team to create a book that includes information about the country from their traditions, customs , culture, heritage and natural, like its people, professionals, artists and entrepreneurs.

The event was attended by leading members of the Dominican community in New York, such as Mr. Tilo Rivas, businessman, journalist, member of the Hispanic Culture Foundation in Hudson County and president of the Dominican Parade in Hudson County, New Jersey and Mr. Ricardo Ureña, cultural promoter of the Dominican diaspora in New York, founder of the folkloric group "Batey" and holder of the recognition of the Ministry of Culture in the United States for his 40 years of work. Also present was the artisan Mercedes Polanco with an exhibition of handicrafts of the Dominican Republic, made here in New York.

Mr. Tilo Rivas offered attendees his impressions of the book and expressed that "Being Dominican is not just a title, it is a commitment." He also urged the public to study each chapter carefully and pass on this knowledge to the new generations. In turn, Mr. Ricardo Ureña shared his extensive knowledge of the Dominican folklore, explaining the origin of the rhythm known as "Pambiche" among other fun facts and delighted the audience with a dance demonstration of the different rhythms of the country including the famous "Diablos Cojuelos,” typical of this time of carnival.

During the event the participants also tasted some typical Dominican food at the Restaurant 809 Sangria Bar & Grill. Its owner, Cirilo Moronta, thanked GFDD / Funglode for promoting the values and the Dominican culture.

"As always Funglode bringing great things for our community, especially when it comes to the Dominican Republic, I think it's a way for us to keep us informed, know our history, geography ... has been extraordinary" express Jaqueline Guilamo, cultural and community activist.

Also the artist Mercedes Polanco, expressed that her participation was motivated by the desire to help. "If you do not help, no one will know and nobody will recognize the work you do."
