    Call to Participate in UNESCO’s International José Martí Prize Competition
    Santo Domingo, September 25 2015

    The Dominican National Commission for UNESCO (CNDU) is pleased to announce the national call for submission of nominations to UNESCO’s International José Martí Prize.

    The prize was created in 1994 by the Government of Cuba to promote and reward an activity of outstanding merit that, in accordance with the ideals and spirit of José Martí and embodying a nation’s aspiration to sovereignty and its struggle for liberty, contributes, in any region of the world, to the unity and integration of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and to the preservation of their identities, cultural traditions and historical values.

    The prize is awarded every two years and consists of a cash prize and a diploma. It can be won by a person, a group of persons, an institution and any other entities or non-governmental organizations.

    Nominations must be accompanied by a written recommendation of no more than 5 pages in English, Spanish or French (all other materials may be attached as an annex; they will not be returned to the nominees):
    a) an overview of the history and achievements of the candidate;
    b) a summary of the work carried out by the candidate or the results obtained from that work and the publications and other supporting documents of major importance, which will be submitted for consideration;
    c) a description of the contribution of the candidate to the Prize's objectives.

    Nominations must be submitted by Friday, October 16, 2015, to Mrs. Anna Maria Majlöf, Secretary of the Prize (Division of Social Transformations and Intercultural Dialogue, Social and Human Sciences Sector, 7 place de Fontenoy, 75352 Paris 07 SP - France; tel: +33 1 45 68 17 77; e-mail: am.majlof@unesco.org).

    With the aim of promoting geographical balance and equality between men and women, UNESCO strongly encourages the nomination of women.
