    Biography: Fernando Peña Defilló

He was born in Santo Domingo, in 1928. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo, where he was taught by renowned Spanish artists, including José Gausachs, Manolo Pascual and Vela Zanetti, and by Dominican Maestros Celeste Woss and Gilberto Hernández Ortega. In 1951, Defilló traveled to Madrid, Spain, where, in addition to being a guest student at the San Fernando School of Art, he received private lessons in the studio-workshop of the famous painter Daniel Vázquez Díaz.

Santos reported that details of the rules and installation of the event will be announced during a press conference to be held at the MINC headquarters next week.

Defilló returned home in 1963 to continue developing his fruitful career. Then, 25 years ago, he retired to Jarabacoa, where he found the time and the perfect space to capture images that seethed and continue to seethe in his head, as he himself has expressed.

The Fernando Peña Defilló Museum: is located in an antique 17th century home, across the street from the Regina Angelorum church and the old Santa Catalina de Siena Monastery, on the José Reyes Street, corner with Padre Billini, in the Colonial City.
