    From Samana to Cabrera

Like a huge canvas of palm tree forests, intense blue seas and white sand beaches, Samana reveals an almost unexplored tropical landscape. Such qualities have turned it into one of the most interesting tourism destinations in the Caribbean region.

Its soil covered with white, pink, green and grey marble it’s a reminiscence of the cretaceous period and constitute one of its mining riches.

Each year, from January to march, humpback whales come to Samana’s coasts escaping from the arctic region to procreate and take care of their offspring.

As soon as you reach the city, you can distinguish the "Cayo levantado" in the coast. It is surrounded by green and blue calmed waters that make a perfect contrast with the white sand that skirts the islet.

Along with the city of Samana, "Las Terrenas" and "Las Galeras" are some of the most striking places in the province with a significant historical enclave in the Samana Bay. When Christopher Columbus decided to return to Spain to inform the Catholic Monarchs about his findings, he discovered the Samana Bay. It was in this place where the first trip between Spaniards and indigenous people took place in the New World. This place was named "the Gulf of Arrows".

In "Las Terrenas", joint work of natives and foreigners has developed a small tourist city. Thus, small hotels and cabins characterize the excellent-quality lodging offer.

In "Las Galeras" the palm tree forests and the semi-wild beaches provide a rural profile that encourages relaxation and adventure with small hotels and fine service.

The "Salto del Limon" is one of its great resources. It is almost 40 meters high and 300 meters above the sea level. Visiting it is an adventure that includes riding a horse up to its outskirt and taking a bath in the waterfall’s natural pool.

A complete option for ecotourism lovers includes virgin beaches, keys, ports and Los Haitises National Park, all of which constitute essential elements of this destination. The National Park counts with a wide diversity of flora and fauna in its humid forest as well as caverns where indigenous people lived during the discovering of America. A vast number of pictograms and pectroglyphs can be found in the caverns.

The cities of Nagua and Cabrera can be reached from Samana. They belong to the province of Maria Trinidad Sanchez and are located in the Eastern Cibao Region, 126 Km. away from the Dominican capital. Tourists from all over the country enjoy Nagua’s seaboard which constitutes a great resort town all year round. The Scottish Bay in Cabrera is characterized by shallow waters and mild swell. Such qualities make it an ideal place for scuba diving. An important tourist destination is the Gran Laguna National Park with plenty of mangle forests.
