Dominicana On Line - El Portal de la República Dominicana

Santo Domingo, San Pedro and La Romana

The touristic route that starts in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic and continues in the south-east by San Pedro de Macorís until la Romana, presents the ideal complement to enjoy the urban beauty with ancient historic enclaves and kilometers of coastlines and Caribbean beaches.
Santo Domingo has the privilege to be the first city of the New World and birthplace of American evangelization.
A series of American primacies are located at the Colonial City –The Primary Cathedral of America, the first hospital, the first monastery and town hall, among others- reason why the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared it “World Heritage Site” in 1990. The Colonial City offers multiple possibilities to experience defined-routed visits: military, civilian and religious visits, where ancient buildings preserve the rich colonial history.
Santo Domingo also presents a modern profile as a metropolis in permanent evolution. Stores of renowned international brands, businesses of avant-garde designs and exquisite craft patterns are part of a wide range of options such as the Mercado Modelo, main craft center in the country.

Another part of the menu offered by the city is its weather, with several parks to carry out pedestrian tours: the Botanical Garden, the Zoological Park, the National Aquarium and the Mirador del Sur Park.
A lodging infrastructure that includes options that range from small hostels to luxurious hotels of renowned international chains, allow a stay full of possibilities that extend to a variety of bars and restaurants at night ensuring full enjoyment with delicious plates in international and Caribbean setting.

The Three Eyes (Tres Ojos) caverns include underground lakes that give birth to a marine route that starts at Las Americas Highway-which gives access to the International Airport Jose Francisco Peña Gomez- and that encounters the beach first at Boca Chica and then at Playa Caribe. The first one has calmed waters and the second is characterized by turbulence which has turned it into the Paradise for windsurf lovers.
Guayacanes and Juan Dolio also offer sunny beaches with the additional bonus of golf courses in the middles of several hotel complexes as well as delicious restaurants overlooking the sea.

San Pedro de Macorís was funded at the beginning of the XIX century by Arab and European immigrants. It constitutes an urban center in the coast with a special attractive: its tall buildings. Some of them embrace Neo-classic and Victorian styles. Its cocola population -black population who represented the work force at the sugar mills- has provided the region with a particular cultural richness, where the Guloyas create a fascinating rhythm.

La Romana can be reached through the highway or through the road that connects the cattle ranches and reed beds with the majestic stone world of Altos de Chavon, as well as the accredited golf courses that are around.

La Romana International Airport is connected to Bayahibe, the ancient fishers’ community, which is also one of the most important beach enclaves in the island due to the beauty of its beaches located close to the Parque Nacional del Este and its Saona Island. Palm trees, white sand, dazzling sun, is the combination that makes it perfect.
