Monte Cristi, on the Northeast Line is the province that offers one of the most colorful carnivals in the country due to the natural theatrical resources of its population. The Bulls and the Civilians are the main protagonists, the latter use their whips to challenge and show their strength in their battles with the bulls.
The loud cracking of the whips lead the celebration in the parade which is full of locals as well as visitors whose passion for the competition is palpable. People’s masks and costumes are made with special padding to absorb the crack of the whip when it smacks you in their mock battles.

In Monte Cristi, the parade is held the 27th of February led by the Bulls and Civilians which are often regarded as two different characters who share the same ideals. Their battles begin in a cemetery where the parade steps off.
