Easter Sunday morning, the end of Holy Week, is an important date for the black people of this community in the province of Santo Domingo. Their costumes and masks are made of vegetables they were given by people in their neighborhoods.

This practice is an expression of the poverty of this area. Necessity being the mother of invention, the people of this area use their imagination to come up with stunning costumes and masks made from their own organic vegetable leftovers.
